The leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for removing Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno North, from his position as chief whip of the Senate. Ndume was replaced by Senator Tahir Monguno following his criticism of President Tinubu’s administration.
Naija News reports that Ndume’s removal was directed by APC National Chairman Umar Ganduje and National Secretary Senator Bashir Ajibola. The decision was affirmed by APC senators through a voice vote in the Senate.
In an interview with Punch, NNPP National Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson accused the APC of stifling freedom of expression, even among its senior members, and disregarding the rule of law.
In response, APC Deputy National Organising Secretary Nze Chidi Duru stated that the party values diverse opinions and suggested that Ndume’s removal might have been due to concerns about his access to party leadership and the President. Duru emphasized that all views are welcome in a democracy, provided they align with party discipline and cohesion.
