Paris 2024 Olympic organizers are probing the disorderly scenes that unfolded during the Argentina vs. Morocco football match on Wednesday, which disrupted the opening day of sports at the Games.

The match, held at the Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium in Saint-Etienne, saw Morocco defeat Argentina 2-1 in a contest marred by confusion and crowd disturbances. Despite Argentina’s Cristian Medina appearing to equalize in injury time, his goal was later ruled offside following a VAR review.

The game was halted due to a pitch invasion by Moroccan fans, with projectiles thrown and a firecracker directed at the Argentine bench. The players were removed from the field for nearly two hours before returning to complete the final minutes in an almost empty stadium.

Paris 2024 organizers have stated they are working with relevant authorities to investigate the causes of the incident and determine appropriate measures. Meanwhile, Argentina’s football association has formally complained to FIFA’s disciplinary committee, calling the events “a scandal” and demanding action.
