Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South in Nigeria’s 10th National Assembly, has died in a London hotel. Ubah had traveled to the UK just two days prior to his passing.
Ubah, who switched from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last year, was confirmed deceased by his Senate colleagues via a social media group chat. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
His passing comes shortly after he made headlines for a substantial donation to the APC. Ubah’s campaign council contributed ₦71 million to the party’s efforts in Anambra State, ahead of the 2025 governorship election. The donation included ₦50 million from Ubah himself and additional funds from other notable supporters.
Ubah had been a significant figure in the APC, bolstering the party’s influence in the South-East region. He was preparing to run for the Anambra State governorship under the APC banner next year.
The 52-year-old politician first entered the Senate in 2019 with the YPP, was re-elected in 2023, and later joined the APC. He previously contested the 2014 governorship election with the Labour Party.
