Randy Waldrum has stepped down as head coach of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, citing the need to focus on his wife’s health. Waldrum, who took over the role in 2020, guided the team to notable achievements, including a semi-final finish at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and a round of 16 appearance at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
In his resignation letter dated September 12, 2024, Waldrum expressed that his wife’s health concerns have made it challenging for him to continue in the role. Despite high expectations for the Tokyo Olympics, where the Super Falcons did not advance past the group stage, Waldrum’s contributions to the team have been significant. He has requested the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to begin the search for his successor.
