Super Eagles defender Ola Aina has earned a spot in the Premier League Team of the Week after his stellar performance helped Nottingham Forest secure a stunning 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.
Aina was instrumental in Forest’s resilient defense, contributing to the club’s first win at Anfield in 55 years. His standout performance drew praise from Premier League legend Alan Shearer, who included the 26-year-old in his best XI for the game week.
“Part of a fantastic defensive effort from Forest, Aina effectively contained the in-form Luis Diaz, which is no small achievement,” Shearer commented.
The former Chelsea player completed the full 90 minutes and made a crucial goal-line clearance in the first half to deny Diaz. His inclusion in the Team of the Week underscores Nuno Espirito Santo’s effective tactical approach, focusing on deep defense and counter-attacking speed.
Substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi scored the decisive goal for Forest, rounding off a well-executed game plan. Alongside Aina, defenders Murillo and Alex Moreno were also named in Shearer’s lineup, as were Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson and manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
Other players in the Team of the Week included Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez, Manchester United’s Matthijs de Ligt, and Arsenal’s Gabriel. In attack, Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins were recognized for their goals.
