Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca believes his team isn’t yet ready to compete at the level of Premier League giants Manchester City and Arsenal. While Chelsea has shown improvement under Maresca’s leadership, he emphasized that consistency takes time to achieve.
Speaking after Chelsea’s 4-2 win over Gent in the Europa Conference League, Maresca highlighted that both City and Arsenal have benefited from long-term stability with their managers, Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta. Guardiola has been at Manchester City for nine years, while Arteta has led Arsenal for five. Maresca believes this longevity is key to their success, something Chelsea is still working towards.
Despite Chelsea’s significant squad investment, Maresca urged for patience, stressing that his team is still in the early stages of development. He explained, “We’ve only had three months together, so I’m convinced we cannot yet compete with City or Arsenal.”
