Labour Party chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has called on politicians to either stand up for the people who elected them or step aside if they fear for their lives. Speaking during an interview with Soar TV, Okonkwo praised Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for ensuring the successful conduct of the recent Local Government elections despite numerous challenges.
Okonkwo commended Fubara’s courage in proceeding with the elections, even after the Nigeria Police Force withdrew, and in the face of opposition from supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. He emphasized the need for politicians who are willing to take risks to defend democratic rights, urging those who aren’t up to the task to leave the political stage.
According to Okonkwo, leaders like Fubara, who resist oppression and defend their people’s rights, are crucial to the stability of Nigeria’s democracy. He criticized politicians who shy away from such challenges, stating they are unfit to serve.
