Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has demanded the immediate resignation of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, holding them responsible for the recent unrest in Rivers State.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, Frank accused both Wike and Egbetokun of being complicit in the burning of two local council secretariats in Rivers. He extended his condolences to Governor Siminalayi Fubara and called for swift justice for those involved in the violence.
While Frank acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s directive for police intervention, he criticized the response as too delayed and biased in favor of Wike. He alleged that Wike has been boasting about having Tinubu’s support to destabilize the Rivers State government under Governor Fubara.
“Wike has been claiming to have the President’s blessings to wreak havoc in Rivers State, with the aim of benefiting politically in the 2027 elections,” Frank stated.
He warned that this unrest, if not curbed, could escalate, putting the state’s oil facilities at risk. Frank urged all patriotic Nigerians, including former leaders and labor unions, to speak out against the situation.
“Enough is enough. Wike and the Inspector General of Police must be held accountable. The perpetrators must be brought to justice. President Tinubu must act as the Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, not as a partisan leader. He must demonstrate fairness and neutrality in the governance of all Nigerians,” Frank emphasized.
