The ongoing internal crisis within Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified, with a faction of the National Working Committee (NWC) appointing Yayari Ahmed, the party’s Treasurer, as the new Acting National Chairman. This development follows the suspension of Ambassador Umar Damagum from his position as Acting National Chairman.

In an official statement released in Abuja, PDP National Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba confirmed the appointment of Yayari Ahmed Mohammed. The statement highlighted that the decision was made in accordance with the PDP Constitution (amended in 2017) and takes immediate effect.

“The NWC calls on all party organs, leaders, stakeholders, and members to remain focused during this critical time as preparations continue for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, 24th October 2024,” the statement read.

This leadership shift is the latest in a series of challenges facing the party, as internal divisions threaten its stability ahead of key political events.
