Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), has urged Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resist intimidation and harassment from former Governor Nyesom Wike and his allies amid the ongoing budget crisis in the state.
This comes after the Court of Appeal in Abuja dismissed Fubara’s appeal challenging an earlier judgment that nullified the 2024 Rivers State Budget, which had been passed by lawmakers who defected from the PDP to the APC. The court ordered Fubara to re-present the budget before the House of Assembly under Speaker Martins Amaewhule and the defected lawmakers.
Eze argued that the court did not address the legitimacy of the 27 defected lawmakers, claiming they had effectively ceased to be members of the State Assembly. He advised Fubara not to grant them any legitimacy by re-presenting the budget to them.
In a statement, Eze expressed concerns over the use of the judiciary for political power plays and urged the courts to deliver fair and non-technical judgments. He also called on Fubara to appeal the court’s ruling and resist any attempts to destabilize the state, warning of the consequences if Rivers State remains under Wike’s influence.
Eze further emphasized that President Bola Tinubu has a responsibility to ensure that Rivers State remains stable and free from political manipulation.
