The Federal Government has stepped in after the Super Eagles of Nigeria were left stranded for over 13 hours at Al Abraq Airport in Libya. The national team had arrived on Sunday, October 13, ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Mediterranean Knights, scheduled for Tuesday, October 15.
Captain William Troost-Ekong expressed frustration over the team’s poor treatment on social media, leading to a decision by the Super Eagles to boycott the match. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed it is making arrangements to fly the team back home, casting doubt on their participation in the fixture.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has been in contact with the team through the Nigerian Mission in Libya. However, Libyan authorities have yet to grant permission for the mission to reach the Super Eagles in Bayda City. Supplies and internet access have been provided by the Nigerian community in Benghazi. Tuggar continues to monitor the situation closely.
