The Black Stars of Ghana could host their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) home qualifiers in Nigeria after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rejected their primary venue, the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, due to structural deficiencies.
CAF’s inspection found the stadium unsuitable for competitive matches, citing issues such as poor drainage, uneven surfaces, and inadequate grass cover. With other stadiums in Ghana, like Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadiums, also falling short of standards, Ghana must find an alternative venue.
The most likely option is Nigeria’s Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, which has a capacity of 30,000 and is relatively close to Ghana. Other stadiums in Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, and Morocco are also being considered. The Ghana Football Association is expected to make a final decision soon.
