The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Asue Ighodalo, and the PDP, accusing them of suffering from what the party calls “dangerous hallucinations.” Orobosa Omo-Ojo, Director of Publicity for the Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council, made this claim in response to allegations from the Edo government that the APC plans to rig the upcoming September 21 election.
Omo-Ojo dismissed the accusations, comparing Obaseki and the PDP’s call for external help to a man who sets his own house on fire and asks his neighbors for assistance. He referenced incidents such as the unresolved death of late Inspector Onuh Akor, suggesting that the PDP and its candidates are facing the “ghost of imminent defeat” and resorting to desperate measures.
The APC also criticized Obaseki and Ighodalo for refusing to sign a peace accord organized by the National Peace Committee, led by former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar. The APC interpreted this refusal as an indication that the PDP intends to resort to violence to win the election.
In contrast, the APC reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful election, emphasizing its goal of removing the PDP from power and “liberating” the people of Edo from what they describe as the corrupt leadership of Obaseki and his administration.
