Mark Jacob, the former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to step down from the PDP. Jacob’s call follows Wike’s acceptance of a ministerial position in the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government, sparking concerns about his loyalty to the PDP.
Speaking on Arise News, Jacob criticized Wike for what he described as a lack of integrity and commitment to the party. He accused Wike of exacerbating internal conflicts within the PDP and argued that his continued membership could further destabilize the party.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, has been a divisive figure within the PDP, particularly after his falling out with the party leadership during the 2023 elections. His recent appointment in President Bola Tinubu’s administration has intensified scrutiny over his political allegiance.
Jacob contended that Wike should have made the “honourable” choice to leave the PDP after accepting a significant role in the APC-led government. He criticized Wike for “blowing hot and cold,” asserting that it is contradictory to claim loyalty to the PDP while opposing its interests.
This call for Wike’s resignation follows an open letter from Ijaw national leader Edwin Clark, who urged the PDP leadership to investigate Wike for alleged anti-party activities and expel him if found guilty.
