Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has formally requested the Kano State House of Assembly to approve a supplementary budget of ₦99.2 billion for 2024. The proposal, presented during a plenary session led by Speaker Ismail Falgore, is intended to accelerate the execution of key projects aimed at improving the welfare of Kano State residents, in line with Sections 122 (A) and (B) of the 1999 Constitution.
The proposed supplementary budget includes ₦33.76 billion for personnel expenses, ₦34.49 billion for overhead costs, and ₦30.97 billion for capital investments. If approved, the total budget for 2024 would increase from ₦437.34 billion to approximately ₦536.56 billion.
Musa Shanono, the State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, explained that the supplementary budget will help finance the new minimum wage and other critical expenditures. The government also plans to use the funds to further infrastructure development, enhance human capital, and improve the health and education sectors.
During the same session, Yusuf Aliyu, representing Nassarawa Constituency, introduced a motion to rehabilitate the Gwagwarwa Mini Stadium. He highlighted the deteriorating condition of the stadium, which has become a hub for drug trafficking and insecurity, and urged the government to prioritize its restoration to promote sports and improve regional security.
