Kazakhstan’s Alexandra Le and Islam Satpayev secured the first medal of the Olympic Games on Saturday, achieving an unexpected bronze in the 10-meter mixed team air rifle event.
In a surprising turn of events, Le and Satpayev triumphed over Germany’s top-ranked pair, Maximilian Ulbrich and Anna Janssen, with a decisive score of 17-5 at Chateauroux. Despite Janssen, the world number one, and Ulbrich, ranked 19th, being favored to win, Le and Satpayev’s performance surpassed expectations.
