Buba Galadima, a prominent member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has firmly refuted claims that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, would consider serving as a running mate to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi. This clarification comes in response to media interpretations of a recent interview with Kwankwaso.
Galadima expressed disappointment over the misrepresentation of Kwankwaso’s views, stating that he has not contemplated, nor will he ever contemplate, the option of becoming Obi’s running mate in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. He emphasized that Kwankwaso is fully prepared to pursue the presidency and possesses the political acumen and intellectual capability to tackle Nigeria’s challenges effectively.
During the interview, Kwankwaso highlighted his political credentials, asserting that he holds a significant advantage over politicians like Obi. Galadima further suggested that Obi should consider joining the Kwankwasiyya Movement to help liberate Nigeria from ineffective leadership.
“The NNPP presidential flagbearer is far ahead of the former Anambra state Governor in every aspect. Thus, saying that Kwankwaso will serve as Obi’s running mate in the next three years diminishes his standing and is unfounded speculation,” Galadima remarked. He added, “For those who listened closely to the interview, it was clear that what Senator Kwankwaso conveyed was a statement of superiority over Peter Obi, not the other way around.”
