Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dispelled rumors about his potential bid for the 2027 presidency, asserting that he is capable of making his own political decisions without outside influence. Speaking at an event at Fashola Farm in Oyo, Makinde dismissed speculations about his ambitions, stressing that he will make his political future clear when the time is right.
Makinde emphasized his independence, stating, “I’m old enough if I want to do something, I will come out and say, this is what I want to do. No one can push my agenda. I will push my agenda when the time comes.”
Reflecting on his political journey, the governor highlighted the people of Oyo State’s role in his 2019 election, noting that he had no political godfathers or major sponsors but earned the trust of the electorate. He also expressed concerns about Nigeria evolving into a one-party state, advocating for a multi-party system to ensure diverse leadership opportunities.
Makinde’s comments reinforce his stance on political independence and the need for a competitive political environment in Nigeria.
