President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt wishes to Team Nigeria as they embark on their journey at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu expressed his support for the 88 athletes representing Nigeria in 12 sports categories at the event. The team includes 63 women and 25 men.
The Paris Olympic Games, set to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024, will feature 10,714 athletes from 205 countries. President Tinubu assured Team Nigeria of the unwavering support from over 200 million Nigerians who will be cheering for their success throughout the competition.
As the Games officially opened on Friday, July 26, the president looked forward to the performance of Nigerian athletes like Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the 100-meter hurdles, and other talented team members.
In his message, Tinubu encouraged the athletes to embody the qualities of resilience, courage, respect, self-control, and good sportsmanship that define Nigerians. He also called on the coaching crew and Nigerian spectators in Paris to uphold the nation’s honor as worthy ambassadors.
“The President enjoins the athletes to exhibit the resilience, courage, respect, self-control, and good sportsmanship that Nigerians are known for,” the statement added. “President Tinubu urges the coaching crew, support staff, and Nigerian spectators who will be watching the Games in Paris to remain worthy ambassadors of the country.”
