Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has condemned the demolition of Crystal Place Mall in Ilorin, Kwara State, owned by former House of Representatives member Moshood Mustapha. The mall was demolished by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s administration last weekend, sparking political controversy.
The Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KW-GIS) issued a three-day eviction notice to tenants, citing land use violations. KW-GIS Chairman Suleiman Abdulkareem explained that the land was originally allocated for a car park, not a shopping mall. However, Mustapha refuted these claims, accusing the government of political vendetta.
Saraki described the demolition as “pettiness” by the governor and an attack on the economic development of the state. He accused Governor Abdulrazaq of using the demolition to suppress opposition and silence critics, questioning why the issue with the mall was raised after 64 months in office.
