Senator Shehu Buba Umar (APC, Bauchi South) has criticized the Bauchi Emirate Council for stripping him of his traditional title, ‘Mujaddadin Bauchi’. Umar, who was informed of the decision on August 14, 2024, claims he was not given a fair hearing.
The revocation followed Umar’s public accusation that Governor Bala Mohammed misappropriated palliative items meant for the people. The senator had alleged that supplies intended to alleviate economic hardship were sold rather than distributed.
In his response, Umar stated that his comments were aimed at defending President Bola Tinubu against what he described as politically motivated and unfounded accusations from Governor Mohammed. He expressed disappointment that the council did not offer him an opportunity to present his side before the decision was made.
Umar urged the Emirate Council to steer clear of political conflicts and focus on serving the interests of the people. Despite his disagreement, he accepted the council’s decision with humility and wished for the continued prosperity and leadership of the Emir.
