Philip Shaibu, the reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, has shared his frustration and reflections on his strained relationship with Governor Godwin Obaseki. During a recent visit to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, Shaibu expressed his disappointment over the treatment he has received despite his significant sacrifices for the administration.
Shaibu addressed the issue of being asked to return 22 official vehicles, clarifying that, with the exception of one Jeep provided by the governor in the third year of their term, all the vehicles in his convoy were his personal property.
When asked about the possibility of forgiving Obaseki, Shaibu reflected on the nature of human imperfection and the importance of forgiveness. He cited the commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself,” emphasizing the need for peace and understanding despite their differences.
Shaibu detailed his sacrifices, including forgoing personal and official entitlements to avoid conflict and ensure the success of the administration. He also criticized Obaseki’s governance style, stating that it was no longer acceptable and that the responsibility of returning the APC to power involved all Edo people.
Shaibu’s comments come as his impeachment suit against Obaseki remains adjourned, highlighting ongoing tensions within the state’s political landscape.
