Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has expressed strong confidence in his team’s readiness for their opening 2024 Paris Olympics match against Brazil, scheduled for today, July 25, at 6 p.m.
Despite a challenging track record against Brazil—with two losses and one draw in their last three encounters—Waldrum believes the Super Falcons have significantly advanced since their performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. At the World Cup, Nigeria reached the Round of 16 and showcased formidable skills against top teams like Canada, Australia, and England.
Since their second-round exit to England, the Super Falcons have experienced only one defeat and secured their Olympic berth by overcoming South Africa.
In the Paris Olympics group stage, Nigeria will face Brazil, Spain, and Japan in Group C. Waldrum is optimistic about his team’s prospects, highlighting their strong preparation and positive experiences in Spain and France.
“Our preparations have been excellent, and the players are in peak condition and excited to compete,” Waldrum said. “We’ve definitely improved since the World Cup, and I’m confident that our progress will be visible in our match against Brazil.”
