A tragic boat collision on Monday in Imore town, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Lagos State, has left at least 21 passengers feared drowned. The accident occurred when two boats, each carrying 16 passengers, collided mid-lagoon, causing both to capsize.
The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a press statement on Tuesday, stating that the Ilashe police division received a report of the crash around 7 pm.
Emergency responders, including marine police and local divers, swiftly arrived on the scene and managed to rescue 11 injured passengers, who were rushed to the Naval Hospital in Navy Town, Alakija, for medical attention.
Authorities are still searching for missing passengers, while an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
