As of August 11, 2024, twenty-seven states and the Federal Capital Territory have yet to set up committees to implement the newly approved N70,000 minimum wage. While states like Lagos and Edo have already started paying the minimum wage, others, including Plateau, Kebbi, and Sokoto, are still in the negotiation phase. Some states, such as Gombe and Kogi, have expressed concerns about their ability to meet the new wage due to financial constraints.
Seven states, including Kano, Kwara, and Ogun, have formed implementation committees, while Osun, Delta, and Benue plan to establish their committees soon. The delay in setting up these panels comes despite President Bola Tinubu signing the minimum wage into law on July 29, 2024. The situation has raised concerns about the timely and uniform implementation of the new wage across the country.
