Recent flooding in Sokoto State has displaced around 2,000 people across various communities in the Gada and Dange-Shuni Local Government Areas (LGAs). The Director of Relief and Rehabilitation within the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mustapha Umar, confirmed the events in a statement.
Umar reported that numerous homes and agricultural lands have been submerged, affecting approximately 1,700 individuals in Gada LGA alone. The flooding has led to significant losses of farmland, farm animals, and food supplies. The most impacted communities in Gada LGA include Dantudu, Balakozo, Gidan-Tudu, and Tsitse.
While the situation in Dange-Shuni LGA is still under assessment, the extent of damage and the number of affected residents are yet to be determined.
In response to the crisis, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and Senator representing Sokoto North, expressed his sympathies. Through his media aide, Bashar Abubakar, Senator Wamakko offered prayers for the well-being and recovery of the victims.
