The Lagos State Task Force has apprehended 114 suspects and confiscated 2,000 litres of diesel in a raid targeting black spots in Ikoyi.
Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the agency’s spokesperson, reported that the operation, led by Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele, took place on Monday night and focused on several high-risk areas in Ikoyi.
“The raid resulted in the confiscation of over 2,000 litres of illegally stored diesel and the arrest of 114 suspects,” Abdulraheem said. The operation, supported by Lagos State Commissioner of Police Adegoke Fayoade, was initiated after numerous complaints from residents about suspicious activities and the presence of unidentifiable individuals using residential areas for illicit purposes. Key locations targeted included Mosley Street, Glover Road, and Lateef Jakande Avenue.
CSP Akerele explained that a thorough investigation had confirmed the residents’ complaints. “We have come out here to address issues of environmental and safety concerns in Ikoyi, where residents complained about the increasing numbers of miscreants converting inner streets into restaurants, drinking spots, gambling spots, and boutiques. It is an eyesore what we encountered here during our investigations, and we will ensure that we restore sanity to these streets immediately,” he said.
