Nigerians are hopeful for a possible reduction in cement prices following recent remarks by Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest individual. Dangote, owner of Dangote Cement, addressed allegations of monopolistic behavior, asserting that his company does not engage in practices that hinder market competition.
Dangote clarified that when Dangote Cement launched, Lafarge was the only other major player in the Nigerian market, and there were no monopoly claims against Lafarge at that time.
These statements have raised hopes for improved competition within the cement industry, potentially leading to reduced prices. Cement costs remain a significant issue, affecting both construction expenses and housing affordability nationwide.
