Subscribers of major networks in Kano have expressed frustration over poor internet and call services in the metropolis.
In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, residents highlighted the difficulties caused by unreliable network services.
Moses Isiyaku, one subscriber, described his recent struggles with inconsistent internet and call services. “This disappointing situation has caused untold hardship,” he said, mentioning that he missed an important flight to Lagos due to poor connectivity.
Businessman Abubakar Isah reported frequent connection failures, poor data service, and fluctuating networks. “The network providers are not sensitive to our plight,” he said, while also praising the Nigerian Communications Commission for its efforts and urging it to better protect subscribers.
Ahmed Nuhu, an internet cafe operator, noted the declining performance of telecommunication systems in recent times. He called on regulatory bodies to address the situation and alleviate what he termed the ‘oppression’ by telecom providers.
School teacher Maryam Adamu urged telecom operators to improve their services, stating, “Nigerians are angry with them.” She accused the operators of prioritizing profits over service quality and urged them to find ways to enhance their offerings.
Adamu also lamented the closure of the MTN office in the metropolis, which she visited to retrieve her line. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the MTN head office in Kano was shut, with security personnel confirming the closure. The premises, located at Civic Centre, had its gates locked, with no crowd present, unlike the previous day when police had to intervene with teargas to disperse a large crowd of subscribers.
MTN Nigeria had earlier issued a notice informing customers of the closure of their outlets nationwide. The move was aimed at ensuring the safety of staff and customers amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the NIN-SIM card linkage.
