Damaturu – The Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (YSCHMA) has initiated the enrollment of 11,013 new beneficiaries under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF). This program, supported by the Federal Government through the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), aims to extend free healthcare services to vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals across the state.
Dr. Babagana Tijani, Executive Secretary of YSCHMA, expressed gratitude for the federal support and highlighted the importance of including more vulnerable groups, including ‘Almajiris,’ in collaboration with the Yobe State Arabic and Islamic Education Board (AISEB). This initiative is part of a broader strategy to achieve Universal Health Coverage in line with Governor Mai Mala Buni’s health policy agenda.
The enrollment process began on July 30, 2024, covering three Senatorial zones in Yobe State. Local government areas involved in this phase include Bade, Bursari, Damaturu, Fika, Fune, Gujba, Nangere, Nguru, Potiskum, and Yusufari.
The targeted beneficiaries for this enrollment include:
- Pregnant Women: 2,100
- Orphanages: 2,100
- Almajiris: 2,100
- Indigent Individuals: 4,113
Dr. Tijani acknowledged the support from Governor Mai Mala Buni and urged additional participation from business groups, international and local NGOs, philanthropists, politicians, and other stakeholders. The goal is to collaborate in achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030 for both the state and the country.
The YSCHMA’s efforts mark a significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility and quality for the less privileged in Yobe State.
