Twenty-four hours after the murder of four policemen and a Point of Sale operator in Irete, Owerri West Local Government Area, gunmen struck again on Tuesday afternoon, killing a young man in nearby Orji, Owerri North LGA.
that the assailants fired shots into the air as they moved towards the Owerri-Enugu Road, where they also set an Imo State Government Waste Management Agency vehicle on fire at the Nkwo Orji Market. Upon visiting the scene, our correspondent found the vehicle engulfed in flames.
An eyewitness, speaking anonymously due to lack of authorization, reported that the gunmen shouted warnings such as, “Stay in your homes” and “Don’t come out during the sit-at-home if you love your lives.”
As a result, traders and buyers fled the market, abandoning their goods and vehicles in their rush to escape. In response to the incident, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Henry Okoye stated, “The police operatives have been massively deployed at Orji. The situation is under control.”
