Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has revealed that the Federal Government is holding off on announcing the centres for the sale of ₦40,000 rice to prevent it from being hijacked and hoarded by wealthy individuals.
Naija News recalls that the Federal Government, through the minister, announced on Monday the creation of centres across the country where Nigerians could purchase 50kg bags of rice for ₦40,000.
Idris stated that this initiative is part of several efforts by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to alleviate the living conditions of citizens. During a press briefing at the Radio House in Abuja on Wednesday, he confirmed that the rice bags are still available.
He explained that the rice is in the process of being distributed to states, but it is challenging to disclose specific routes and times due to security concerns.
“It’s in the process of distribution to the various states. Sometimes, it is difficult to mention the routes and the time for security reasons. But the rice is already available, it is going to be sold at ₦40,000,” Idris said.
He emphasized that precautions are being taken to ensure that the rice is not hijacked by those with money, ensuring it reaches the intended beneficiaries.
