Metropolitan Square, the planned site for the nationwide hunger protest in Kwara State, remained empty Thursday morning.
Police and Department of State Services (DSS) officials stationed at the venue reported no activity from the protest organizers as of 9:00 am.
Local businesses, including shops, markets, and banks, were closed out of concern for potential violence, though some filling stations and tricycle operators continued to operate.
Despite the absence of protesters, Kwara’s Take-It-Back coordinator, Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed, affirmed that the protest would proceed as planned. The group has been restricted to Metropolitan Square by a recent court order, which was issued to prevent potential violence.
Ahmed criticized the state’s security forces and government for not ensuring a safe environment for the demonstration and warned that any harm to protesters would be attributed to the authorities.
