The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has declared a 24-hour curfew in response to escalating violence amid protests against hunger in the country. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Government House on Thursday.
Governor Yusuf stated, “After careful consideration, we have decided that a 24-hour curfew should be implemented to prevent further looting, vandalization of businesses, and harm to innocent citizens.” He instructed all security agencies in the state to ensure full compliance with the curfew to restore peace.
Naija News reports that curfews have also been declared in Borno and Yobe States. In Borno, the curfew was imposed after protesters in the Bulunkutu area of Maiduguri went on a rampage, setting up roadblocks, disrupting vehicular movement, and breaking the windscreens of vehicles attempting to pass.
Protesters, consisting of hundreds of young men and women, chanted anti-government songs and carried placards with messages such as “Ba ma yi” (We are not doing), “Tinubu must go,” “End the bad governance,” and “There is hunger.”
