As Nigerians stage nationwide protests against economic hardship, an unnamed man in Lagos chose a dramatic method to express his frustration by stripping naked in Ojota on Thursday.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the man can be seen walking naked among other protesters, singing “Solidarity forever.” The protests, part of the #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria movement that began on August 1, 2024, aim to draw attention to the economic difficulties faced by the masses.
PUNCH Metro reports that the protests in Lagos defied a court order confining them to specific areas, with demonstrators taking to the streets, roads, and Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, assured protesters and citizens of their safety, stating that the police were on the ground to ensure security. He noted that the protests have been peaceful and that non-protesting Lagosians have been able to go about their duties without harassment or intimidation.
“The area is calm!” Hundeyin wrote. “The Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni, has visited the protest ground at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota, Lagos, and met the protesters being peaceful. He equally checked Alausa, Lekki toll gate, and other parts of the state and found them peaceful too. Monitoring is ongoing. Your safety and security remain our priority.”
