The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued a high-alert for medical personnel and hospitals in Abuja following a shootout between police and hoodlums exploiting the #EndBadGovernance protests. The clash occurred on the evening of August 1, 2024, when hoodlums obstructed the Lugbe end of Shehu Musa Yaradua Expressway and engaged in robbery and assault, prompting a police response.
In response, the Command has emphasized the importance of the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act 2017, which mandates immediate medical attention for gunshot wounds. Hospitals are instructed to provide urgent care and report such cases to local police for further investigation.
Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh condemned the use of protests as a cover for criminal activities, including armed robbery, assault, and vandalism. He reassured the public that security forces are on high alert to maintain order and protect citizens’ rights during the ongoing demonstrations.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude to residents for their cooperation and pledged that measures are in place to prevent any infringement on their rights or property damage.
