Katsina State Acting Governor Faruk Lawal has announced a relaxation of the 24-hour curfew previously imposed on Dutsinma Local Government Area (LGA). The new curfew hours for Dutsinma will now be from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am, down from the around-the-clock restriction.
This adjustment follows improved security conditions in the area. Despite this relaxation, the ban on unusual gatherings and protests remains in effect across the state.
Lawal commended the security forces for their handling of recent incidents, including those where peaceful protests were disrupted by criminal elements. He also expressed gratitude to parents, guardians, and community leaders for their efforts in discouraging youth from participating in the violence.
The state security council has reported multiple arrests related to recent violence, looting, and vandalism. Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, Barrister Abdullahi Garba Faskari, stated that some suspects have been charged with criminal conspiracy, public disturbance, vandalism, and theft.
The council has urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding as efforts continue to ensure safety and security. The curfew adjustment aims to restore peace and stability following the unrest that prompted the initial restrictions.
