The Department of State Services (DSS) has refuted claims that its personnel raided the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) headquarters in Abuja. This denial follows allegations made by the NLC on Wednesday, asserting that secret police operatives had stormed their office around 8:30 PM and seized various documents.
According to the NLC, the operatives, allegedly including members of the Nigeria Police Force and others in plainclothes, forcibly entered the 10th floor of the Labour House. They reportedly detained the security guard on duty and coerced him into producing keys to the offices. When the guard could not provide the keys, the operatives allegedly broke into the second floor, ransacked the bookshop, and took away numerous books and publications. The NLC accused the operatives of searching for materials linked to the #EndBadGovernance protests.
In response, the NLC condemned the incident as an unprecedented violation of their premises, comparing it to the dark days of military rule in Nigeria.
However, DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya issued a statement on Thursday, denying any involvement in the alleged raid. “The Service (DSS) did not carry out any operation at the NLC office in Abuja,” Afunanya stated via the agency’s X handle, dismissing the allegations.
