The Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) announced on Friday that it has obtained a court order to prosecute seven dealers implicated in the sharp rise in flour and bread prices in the state.
Bar. Muhyi Rimingado, Chairman of the anti-graft agency, revealed this during a meeting with leaders from the Singer market and the Bakers’ Association. He criticized the dealers for exploiting the current economic hardship by artificially inflating prices, worsening the plight of residents amidst a nationwide protest against rising costs.
Rimingado confirmed that one major dealer is currently at large, and emphasized the governor’s directive to address the issue urgently. Efforts are underway to streamline the supply chain by having flour supplied directly from the Singer market to bakers, bypassing intermediaries who have contributed to the price hikes.
Chairman of the Singer Market, Bar. Junaidu Muhammad, confirmed that one trailer of flour has already been delivered directly to bakers as part of this initiative.
