On May 20, 2024, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) officially announced Shehu Usman Mohammed as the new Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Formerly an Assistant Corps Marshal, Mohammed steps into the role with a mission to enhance and reform the FRSC in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Mohammed, a prince from Zaria in Kaduna State and known as Sulukin Arewan Zazzau, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. With a career spanning over 30 years in road safety management, he has built a reputation for diligence, patriotism, and effective leadership.
Beginning his journey with the FRSC in 1992 after graduating from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Mohammed has held various significant positions, including Sector Accountant in Kaduna, Staff Officer in Finance at the FRSC headquarters, and Deputy Head of Internal Audit. His roles have also extended to Zonal Auditor, Headquarters Head of Section (Accounts), Corps Internal Auditor, and Assistant Corps Marshal. Notably, he has also served on the board of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).
Mohammed’s credentials are further bolstered by his membership in esteemed institutions such as the Institute of Safety Professionals, Chartered Institute of Taxation, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). He is an alumnus of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and a double awardee from the FRSC Anti-Corruption and Transparency Monitoring Unit.
Known for his humble demeanor and commitment to hard work, Mohammed has expressed his intent to instigate a new era of transformation within the FRSC. His focus will be on policy reform, operational improvements, and the development of human capital within the Corps.
An avid sports enthusiast, including horse riding and football, Mohammed also enjoys being a member of the Zaria Polo Club. As he takes up his new role, he is poised to make a substantial impact on the FRSC’s operational strategies and overall effectiveness.
The new Corps Marshal is set to lead the FRSC with a philosophy rooted in humility and a dedication to public service, aiming to leave a lasting positive legacy.
