Ismail Sahabi, a lecturer at the Federal College of Education in Zaria, Kaduna State, has been freed after being kidnapped for a month. Sahabi, along with his brother Sidi Aliyu Sahabi and others, was abducted from Kasuwar Magani in Chikun Local Government Area while working on a farm.
The victims, who are originally from Tudun Wada, Zaria, were held captive for 31 days before their release. A family member, who chose to remain anonymous, mentioned that the victims are currently undergoing medical evaluations. The details of whether a ransom was paid remain undisclosed.
Earlier reports revealed that one of the kidnapped victims was murdered by the abductors. His body was later recovered and buried in Zaria by his family.
In a related incident, Derrick and Caleb, the children of Dr. Tiri Gyang, a Federal University of Dutsinma lecturer killed by bandits, were recently released. The bandits initially demanded a ₦20 million ransom, but the exact amount paid is unclear. Following the ransom payment, only Caleb was released initially. The bandits later demanded two motorcycles and a ₦200,000 mobile recharge card for Derrick’s release, which was fulfilled.
Additionally, Mallam Garba Gardi Funtua, who had paid a ₦2 million ransom for his daughter Aisha’s release, was killed by the bandits. Despite receiving the ransom, the bandits captured and subsequently killed Funtua. The additional demand for ₦5 million was made after his death.
The tragic loss of Mallam Garba was confirmed through a Facebook post by his son, who detailed the events leading up to his father’s death and announced the funeral arrangements.
