Manchester City striker Erling Haaland shared his amusement at Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella’s playful chants against him after City’s 2-0 win over Chelsea in the Premier League opener on Sunday, August 18.

Cucurella, who recently celebrated Spain’s Euro 2024 victory, had humorously taunted Haaland in a chant, singing, “Cucu cucu-rella, he eats paella, Cucu cucu-rella he drinks Estrella, Haaland you’d better tremble because Cucurella is coming!”

Just a month after the chant, the two players faced off at Stamford Bridge. During the match, Cucurella, suffering from cramps, needed help getting back on his feet, but Haaland walked past without assisting him. Haaland also scored the opening goal, which Cucurella was unable to prevent.

Following the match, Haaland spoke to reporters about the incident, recalling that Cucurella had asked for his shirt last season before making the lighthearted jibe during Spain’s celebrations. Haaland described Cucurella as a “funny man” and said he took the teasing in stride, enjoying the humor behind it.
