The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere, has made significant changes to its leadership team with the appointment of three new officers. According to a statement by the organization’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, the new appointments aim to enhance the operational effectiveness of Afenifere.
The newly appointed officers include Agbaakin Ademola Babatunde Folarin as Secretary General, Alagba Dare Babarinsa as Treasurer, and Barrister Lanre Omisore as Financial Secretary. These appointments were officially ratified during a Caucus meeting held at the residence of Afenifere’s National Leader, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, OFR, in Akure, Ondo State, on August 20, 2024.
The new appointees join existing officers, including National Organisation Secretary Abagun Kole Omololu, Legal Adviser Dr. Akin Onigbinde (SAN), and National Publicity Secretary Comrade Jare Ajayi.
Additionally, the Caucus confirmed the appointment of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko as Chairman of the Reconciliation Committee, a position previously endorsed by the group.
The statement highlighted that Chief Fasoranti, in line with Afenifere tradition, has the authority to appoint officers to key positions within the organization.
The new Secretary General, Folarin, is a seasoned lawyer with over 40 years of experience and is well-known for his philanthropic work. Alagba Babarinsa, the new Treasurer, is a veteran journalist with a distinguished career, having been part of the founding team of Tell magazine. Barrister Omisore, the new Financial Secretary, brings a wealth of legal experience from his practice in the United Kingdom.
These appointments are effective immediately, as affirmed by Pa Fasoranti, and are expected to bolster Afenifere’s leadership and influence in the socio-political landscape.
