The Kogi State government has provided an explanation for Governor Usman Ododo’s appearance alongside Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors at a recent event in Taraba State. This sparked widespread speculation about a potential defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC), especially following his election victory affirmed by the Supreme Court.
Photos shared on social media showing Ododo with PDP governors during their meeting in Jalingo led many to speculate that he might be on the verge of switching parties. The gathering, which included prominent PDP governors such as Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), and Godwin Obaseki (Edo), was convened to discuss ongoing crises within their party.
However, Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, has dismissed the defection rumors, clarifying that Governor Ododo was in Taraba solely to attend the wedding of Governor Agbu Kefas’s daughter. Fanwo reiterated that Ododo’s participation in the event had no political undertones, and the governor remains committed to the APC.
