Sixteen people were killed in a tragic auto crash in Ajue community along the Ore-Ondo highway in Ondo State. The accident, which occurred around 8 p.m., involved a Toyota bus and a truck that collided head-on and subsequently burst into flames.
Three individuals sustained serious injuries, while two others escaped without harm. Eyewitnesses reported that the collision was caused by one of the drivers attempting a dangerous overtaking maneuver. There are suspicions that one of the vehicles may have been carrying fuel, which contributed to the severity of the fire.
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ondo Sector Commander, Ibitoye Samuel, confirmed the incident and noted that the rescue operation concluded around 11 p.m. The preliminary investigation points to overspeeding and wrongful overtaking as factors in the crash. The deceased have been taken to the mortuary at the state Specialists Hospital in Ondo town.
