The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has officially started producing petrol, as announced by Devakumar Edwin, the Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, during a broadcast on the Brekete Family show. The refinery, located in Lagos, began petrol production on Sunday.
Edwin mentioned that the refinery has already been producing other petroleum products, such as diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuel, which have been exported due to challenges in distributing them within Nigeria. If local traders or the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) do not purchase the newly produced petrol, the refinery may have to export it as well.
This marks a significant development in Nigeria’s oil industry, as the commencement of petrol production at the Dangote Refinery could potentially reduce the country’s reliance on imported fuel, depending on local demand and distribution.
