The Federal Government has granted UTM Offshore Limited a licence to construct a 2.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility, a first for Nigeria. Announced by Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon. Ekperipe Ekpo, the project is expected to significantly boost gas production and utilisation in line with Nigeria’s Decade of Gas Initiative.
Located offshore in Akwa Ibom, the facility will process 324 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day, with a projected increase in domestic LPG supply. UTM Offshore’s Managing Director, Julius Rone, stated the facility aims to ease local gas prices and reduce import costs, with operations set to begin in 2029.
