The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the release of Benedict Akika, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member and ally of Governor Seyi Makinde, who was kidnapped on September 4, 2024, from his residence in Idi Ape, Olorunda-Aba, Lagelu Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson Adéwálé Osifeso announced Akika’s release on Wednesday after an intensive search operation. The rescue effort, which spanned multiple states, including Ogun, Ondo, and Edo, involved the police’s tactical and intelligence teams. Akika is currently receiving medical treatment and will soon reunite with his family.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the abduction. Residents are urged to provide any information that could assist the investigation.
