Two Chinese Coast Guard ships, Meishan and Xiushan, have arrived in Russia’s far east to participate in joint military drills with Moscow, marking another step in the growing military collaboration between the two nations. The exercise, titled “Pacific Patrol 2024,” follows closely after Chinese and Russian warships conducted drills in the Sea of Japan last week.
The Russian foreign ministry confirmed the arrival of the Chinese vessels in Vladivostok and announced plans for joint exercises and patrols. A welcoming ceremony for the flotilla was held on September 17.
This growing partnership between China and Russia has raised concerns in the West, particularly as both countries aim to challenge what they perceive as a U.S.-dominated global order. Last week, China sent four warships and a supply vessel to Russia to participate in “Ocean-2024,” Moscow’s largest naval exercise in 30 years.
As military cooperation deepens, NATO and other Western powers continue to watch these developments with increasing concern.
