Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has revealed that his administration is investing heavily in intelligence gathering to combat banditry, a long-standing security issue in the state. Speaking on Arise TV, the governor explained that this intelligence, primarily sourced from locals, has been instrumental in tracking the movement of bandits and curbing attacks.
Governor Lawal credited the creation of the Community Protection Guard (CPG) for playing a key role in reducing bandit attacks. He explained that the CPG was formed to support conventional security forces, as the locals are more familiar with the area and can provide critical information on the bandits’ movements.
“We are seeing real progress,” Lawal said, noting that fewer large-scale attacks have been reported compared to previous years. He pointed to the improvement in agricultural activities as a sign of restored security, with farmers now able to return to their fields without fear.
The governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity through a combination of intelligence efforts and political will, adding that security remains his top priority.
“The political will is key,” Lawal stated. “Without security, there can be no meaningful development. That’s why we’re making significant progress.”
